Sailing with Dr. Bob
(Be certain your speakers are on)
I've always had two great loves in my life.....sailing and music!
I've been fortunate to have been able to combine them both.
Below are a few pictures of my first real cruiser.
"TRIAD", taken in 1977, a fast and stable 50 footer.
Here, under sail and towing two go-fasts!
I moved on to my second sailing yacht, and continued my
adventure of sailing the Caribbean....Here she is,
my 41 ft. Morgan IO.....the "OTRA VEZ"...meaning "another way!"
It was at that point, that I thanked my Mom.
She was the one who insisted that I
continue my education so that I would have a
"Real Job" to fall back on, and I did!
This allowed me to enjoy both sailing and composing music.
For 40 years, I've worked as an Optometrist, most recently in the Florida Keys.
This allowed me to live aboard for 23 years, and enjoy sailing and my music.
Thanks Mom!
I finally was able to purchase my "Dream Boat"....
a beautiful 56 foot Irwin cutter/ketch. I spent three years upgrading my new home,
with a completely new custom interior and a great sound system throughout.
Need I mention my onboard recording studio? Here she is!
"Sea Sharp"
Let's go aboard, and take a tour.
Welcome to "Sea Sharp" ... On the left is the view of the Main Salon.
On the right, the view aft toward the Master Suite.
On the left, a view of the music room from the Master Suite, looking forward.
On the right, a view of a guest suite, located in the bow.
Did I say "Master Suite"? ... There was always room for two in the Master Suite, and
most of the time, it was happily occupied with friendly female guests.
Did I mention a recording studio onboard?
Of course ... How else could I make my music?
My only regret was I couldn't fit my Steinway grand
piano aboard......without sawing it in half!
When I seriously began my sailing adventure,
I was finally divorced from "The Bitch ", and met many new friends.
I spent many happy hours at the helm,
just cruising the deep blue.
When I wasn't at the wheel, my good friend, Patrick,
would take over.....As you can see, we always had
proper medication onboard!
I had many fun times onboard, with great musicians,
such as Duffy Jackson and Richie Franks....both fabulous
drummers! Could I fit a set of drums aboard to record
them? ... You bet your ass I could!....along with other
"Guest Artists".
One of my favorite ports was Key West, especially during
the many festivals they had....like "Fantesy Fest".
I always tried to pick the best costume to fit
my twisted personality ...
It paid to be friends with the local law enforcement, too!
A trip to Key West wouldn't be complete
without my famous "Flamingo Dance."
Sometimes we even had costumes parties aboard!
In 2004 I docked "Sea Sharp" for the last time.
It was time for me to stay with my Pop, and care for him.
Ssoo, I sold the "Sea Sharp"....but, I had all the wonderful
memories and pictures of the 23 years that I lived aboard!
Most folks can only dream about what I was able to do.
I can gladly say to them, "Been there and done that."
I hope you enjoyed "Sailing with Captain Dr. Bob"
